Cracked, loose, faded, or outdated tile affects both how a pool looks and how well it is protected. The waterline band takes the most wear, from sun, chemicals, and mineral buildup, so it is usually the first tile to need attention.
Pool remodeling with new plaster and tile is one of the core services at Islander Pool & Spa. When tile needs replacing, old material is removed carefully, the surface is prepared, and new tile is set.
Because our store includes a tile showroom, you can choose your replacement tile in person and coordinate it with your plaster finish and coping.
Common signs include cracked or chipped tile, loose or missing pieces, failing grout, heavy staining or scale that will not clean off, and tile that simply looks dated next to newer finishes. Damaged waterline tile can also let water behind the tile band, so it is worth addressing early.
The waterline band is where tile is most visible and where water marks collect. Consider how easily the surface cleans, whether a blend or texture will disguise spotting, and how the color works with your coping and interior finish. Ask us which glass, porcelain, stone, and mosaic options are available to see in the showroom.
1. Talk with our team about your pool and choose new tile in the showroom.
2. The water level is lowered as needed and the old tile is removed carefully.
3. The surface is cleaned and prepared.
4. New tile is set and grouted.
Tile replacement is often scheduled together with replastering and coping replacement, since the pool is already drained and the materials can be chosen together. See our Remodeling Services page for a complete renovation.
Common questions about replacing pool and waterline tile. Have a question that is not listed? Call us or visit the showroom.
Cracked, chipped, loose, or missing tiles, failing grout, and stains or scale that will not come off are the most common signs. Some owners also replace tile simply to update the look of the pool. Send us photos or bring them to the showroom and we can talk through your options.
Sometimes. If only a few tiles are damaged, bring a sample or clear photos to the showroom and we will look for a close match. Older tile is often discontinued, so an exact match is not always possible. In that case, replacing the full waterline band usually gives the most even result.
Often, yes. Waterline tile can usually be replaced on its own when the plaster is still in good shape. If your plaster is also worn, doing both at the same time can save work, since the pool only needs to be drained once. Ask us which approach makes sense for your pool.
